Four years ago, God began to birth a calling in our hearts to have a missional café in Australia. After working with YWAM for several years we were well established in the community and the Lord began to use our love for people, the church, and coffee to push us towards looking at locations. Timing is everything with the Lord however, and the vision He gave us was placed on hold as we moved back to America to get married and serve on staff at our home church called Reality Carpinteria. During our three years there the Lord continued to grow our hearts for Australia and so in November of 2010 we took a scouting trip to the Sunshine Coast of Queensland to pray and ask God for clarity. During our trip we felt a strong sense that the Lord was calling us back to pioneer a café/church ministry in which we would establish a place in the community where people could gather and drink amazing coffee, experience the love of Christ, and encounter “The Church” in a non-traditional setting.
Five months later, after several miraculous doors were opened, we were back on the Sunny Coast! Some rather extraordinary things have happened in the months we’ve been back. Six months after arriving we saw a vision of roasting our own fair trade organic coffee and sending the profits to rescuing children in Africa. That very day we were introduced to one of the best roasters on the coast who not only loved our vision but helped us find contacts for beans, roasters and all things coffee! Two days later we received a phone call from some close friends that felt like the Lord had burdened them to give us $2,000 which was exactly the amount we needed for our first order of beans! At the moment God has supernaturally provided $6,650.00 towards our vision and the stories keep coming daily as to how He continues to open doors.
We are currently in the process of starting our own café and getting our new coffee brand “Kai Coffee” off the ground by selling at markets and local cafés. Though we don’t have our own space a friend has allowed us to use their building to have weekly prayer and worship nights which we’ve called “The Gathering.” We are also heavily involved in the YWAM base here on the coast, leading worship for the base every Monday morning and teaching on all of the Discipleship Training Schools as well as the School of Biblical Studies.
Slow growth is not always easy but we are realizing that its definitely for our good. As we create new friendships and relationships on the Coast we are beginning to see the Lords timing and release of this new ministry. We would covet your prayers as well as support in this new work.
